General description

Bambusa mizorameana Naithani, a less congested bamboo is a recently described species from Mizoram, India reaching a height up to 10 -20 metre and with a diameter of 5-7 cm. The inflorescence of this species has also not been reported, till date. It is one of the less common bamboo species in Mizoram. griculture implements. Flowering of B. mizorameana Naithani was first observed in January 2017 at home gardens around Zemabawk, Aizawl.

Habit and Habitat

Tree form. It is confined to the slopes of lower hills at an elevation of 400 – 750m.

Distribution

Endemic to Mizoram and Manipur.

Uses

Used for constructional purposes, mainly for purlin in traditional houses and jhum huts and used as baskets and handles for agriculture implements.
